The new "Science for Environment Policy - Thematic Issue on Biodiversity, Agriculture and Health" published by the European Commission, features two scientific articles highlighting how the loss of (marine) biodiversity threatens human well-being. The first article 'Nature provides treasure trove of medical inspiration' summarises the potential of natural products as an indispensible source for drug discovery. The second article 'What is the medical vlaue of marine biodiversity' gives estimates about novel compounds waiting to be discovered in unstudied marine species, and potential new anti-cancer drugs.
